Non-equilibrium quantum dynamics after local quenches

چکیده
We study the quantum dynamics resulting from preparing a onedimensional quantum system in the ground state of initially two decoupled parts which are then joined together (local quench). Specifically we focus on the transverse-field Ising chain and compute the time dependence of the magnetization profile, ml(t), and correlation functions at the critical point, in the ferromagnetically ordered phase and in the paramagnetic phase. At the critical point we find finite-size scaling forms for the non-equilibrium magnetization and compare predictions of conformal field theory with our numerical results. In the ferromagnetic phase the magnetization profiles are well matched by predictions from a quasi-classical calculation that we describe.

Quantum quenches and off-equilibrium dynamical transition in the infinite-dimensional Bose-Hubbard model.
We study the off-equilibrium dynamics of the infinite-dimensional Bose-Hubbard model after a quantum quench. The dynamics can be analyzed exactly by mapping it to an effective Newtonian evolution. For integer filling, we find a dynamical transition separating regimes of small and large quantum quenches starting from the superfluid state. This transition is very similar to the one found for the ...
متن کاملPersistent Hall response in a quantum quench
Out-of-equilibrium systems can host phenomena that transcend the usual restrictions of equilibrium systems. Here we unveil how out-of-equilibrium states, prepared via a quantum quench, can exhibit a non-zero Hall-type response that persists at long times, and even when the instantaneous Hamiltonian is time reversal symmetric; both these features starkly contrast with equilibrium Hall currents. ...

We consider quenches in non-conserved two-dimensional XY systems between any two temperatures below the Kosterlitz-Thouless transition. The evolving systems are defect free at coarse-grained scales, and can be exactly treated. Correlations scale with a characteristic length L(t) ∝ t1/2 at late times. The autocorrelation decay exponent, λ̄ = (ηi + ηf )/2, depends on both the initial and the final...
متن کاملNonequilibrium dynamics of ultracold Fermi superfluids
The aim of this mini review is to survey the literature on the study of nonequilibrium dynamics of Fermi superfluids in the BCS and BEC limits, both in the single channel and dual channel cases. The focus is on mean field approaches to the dynamics, with specific attention drawn to the dynamics of the Ginzburg-Landau order parameters of the Fermi and composite Bose fields, as well as on the mic...
متن کاملQuantum Quenches in Chern Insulators.
We explore the nonequilibrium response of Chern insulators. Focusing on the Haldane model, we study the dynamics induced by quantum quenches between topological and nontopological phases. A notable feature is that the Chern number, calculated for an infinite system, is unchanged under the dynamics following such a quench. However, in finite geometries, the initial and final Hamiltonians are dis...
